The Appalachian Institute for Creative Learning (AICL) is currently seeking applicants for the position of executive director. This will be a part-time position, 10-hours a week/12-months a year, paying $20/hour. The executive director may primarily set their own hours and work at home.

The duties will involve the following: The executive director will supervise and coordinate among the directors of all AICL programs, ensuring that each program is both financially responsible and upholds the values of the larger organization. In particular, the executive director will supervise our year-round administrative staff—administrator, programmer, and book keeper. With the input of the AICL program directors, the executive director will manage the overall AICL budget. With these efforts, the executive director will develop consistency, efficiency, and stability throughout the programmatic structure.

The executive director will develop and administer AICL scholarship campaigns and outreach so that AICL may achieve its goal of economic and racial diversity in its programs.

The executive director will take the lead in AICL strategic planning, fundraising, and capital campaigns.

The executive director will strengthen the organization’s infrastructure. This position will also involve developing AICL’s alumni network and a unified social media strategy. These duties reflect the current priorities for the organization.

The executive director reports to the board of directors. The executive director would participate in AICL board calls as necessary and must help organize and attend the board’s winter meeting.

Successful candidates will have a four-year college or university bachelor’s degree; have proven, relevant leadership experience in a non-profit setting; be self-motivated, organized, and have the ability to prioritize tasks; have strong interpersonal and communication skills as the position entails representing AICL in the community and supervising program directors, staff, committees, and volunteers. The executive director should also participate in a substantial portion of our programming each July.

AICL is a 501(c) 3 non-profit with over thirty-five years experience providing summer enrichment programs for gifted youth and non-traditional learners (appalachianinstitute.org). We have an operating budget of over $200,000 and four-weeks of summer programming.

If interested, please email as attachments—a cover letter (no more than two pages), a resume, and contact information for three references (only one of whom can be a member of AICL already). Applications and questions can be directed to Susan Goslee at susangoslee@gmail.com. We will be accepting applications through 10/15/17.
